Given the opportunity to design a new data center, the IT department of Monroe, N.C., equipped each rack with APC Symmetra UPS devices to guard against power outages.
Power management tools give King County, Wash., and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport a way to centrally monitor remote UPS systems and power distribution units. Such tools can also generate data to help IT departments control energy usage.
Do the Math
Intended to help administrators improve data center efficiency, PUE is the ratio of total power into the data center to power used by IT. A rating below 2 is highly effective; above 3, and there are bigger problems than the IT gear.
